تُعد ثاني أصغر القارات وتمتد على مساحة 2% فقط من إجمالي مساحة الكرة الأرضية ونحو 7% من مساحة اليابسة عليها. تضم القارة 50 دولة تتباين بين "مدينة الفاتيكان" الأصغر إلى روسيا الأكبر. تحيطها وتتخللها المسارات المائية المُتمثلة في المحيط القطبي شمالاً وكل من "نهر الأورال" و"بحر قزوين" و"البحر الأسود" و"بحر إيجه" شرقاً. أما الأحوال المناخية فتتباين بوضوح بين البلدان الشمالية الباردة والجنوب الأكثر دفئاً.
